As my little tutorial was quite outdated, I edited my post.
Now NE is fully available on a MAC.
Just download the file on this address :
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XYHCCSCN
A thorough readme is included to install NE on your MAC. |

I am new to this forum, but, after a long research, I think no solution have been brought yet to this particular problem.
It is possible to play NE on a mac since both versions of the game, even though they can't interact with each other, are quite the same. So if you want to play NE on a mac, and if you have a friend who owns a PC and PC version of the game, that is what you have to do :On your friend's PC, copy the folder Napoleonic Era Beta 2 in my documents/my games on a USB drive. Then go to aoe3 main directory and copy Art, Data, RM3, Shadow selections, Sound, Startup, Trigger 3, DataP, DataPy and AI3. Now on the mac, open the applications folder click right on the Age of Empire 3 application and select open content. Then, find the folder Ressources/GameData and replace the main directory files with the files you copied on PC.
At that time launch the game once and quit it. When it is done, a folder called My Games should have appeared in the documents area of mac. Open this folder and replace the Napoleonic era Beta 2 folder with the PC one.
Napoleonic Era is now fully working on Mac.
One inconvenient though, you can't trigger the options with game UI.
That means you have to copy the file New User3 (or 1 or 2, nevermind, just copy the one you used before) in Documents/Age of Empires 3/ Users3 and transfer it to Documents/My Games/Napoleonic Era Beta 2/Users3. Or edit the xml file yourself if you know how do it.
Then the game will have the same configuration as before.
Ok, I know it is such an unpratictal solution because you have to : 1/ know a friend that owns the PC version 2/ virtually copy the whole size of the game. But, still, it is a solution when you don't want to use bootcamp. |
Great! I newsied it!
| Quote: | | Moreover, I think that creating a NE version for mac would not be so difficult. It would just mean to permit people to download the files without a .exe. But, I don't have the right nor the exact inventory of files modified by NE to do it. |
Yes, I knew that a MAC would only need the files without the executable, however, we both share the same problem. I dont know all the files and directories, but it seems you figured it out by trying, very nice job!
So now we (me and Matthew) could create a MAC version much easier. Alexastor (Project Leader) never did that and now he's barely online. I think we create a list (basing on your guide) and ask him for completion.
If you like you can create a MAC version and upload it (in case we're not fast enough, which is not very improbable). We can use your version then as temporary MAC NE until we finished it with the help of Alexastor. You have my personal permission to do that. _________________

| Woa! I didn't expect my post to be replied so fast. I might be able to create a Mac version of NE. If I succeed I'll upload the files with a link on this forum. |

Hello again.
I have just finished the mac version of Napoleonic Era. It might be downloaded at this address.
((((http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZURR8S10)))) Old link, use only on a French version
A readme is included.
The file weight is still 140 mo compressed (300 uncompressed) because it is not an installator but merely files.
Moreover you'll have to change the skirmish name which is presently mine, but it is not so big an issue .
At last, freedom for Mac users!
Please report any bugs ( bugs which has something to do with the mac portage obviously...)
Ok, fixed address for language problem :

Good Job! the game works fine...
But one thing i did notice, all of the writing is in french!! Since I know a bit of french I can understand some...
Ive already started translating the stringtable but i was wondering if anyone has a copy of the english version so i won't have to go through 70,000 different strings... |

Ooops . As you have noticed, I am French indeed. But I can't figure out why the stringtable is in French because I created this version working on an Enlish version of the game. If I find it out, I'll repost the version with the English stringtables. |

That has a simple reason, the file that has been used for new strings is called randommapstringsy.xml, that file is loaded before the stringtabley.xml, which has not been changed at all so that people can play NE - at least partially - in their native language.
Thanks for the upload, I'm gonna take a look on it later on. _________________

| Yes I am living in Tokyo right now but you can't be more French than me. Okay, so if I upload a version without the stringtabley.xml, would the problem be corrected? |
