Empire: Total War is about exploration and conquest, founding colonies and fighting wars away from home, and is an epic strategy game spanning the 18th and early 19th centuries, in which you direct your nation to dominate not just Europe, but North Africa, America, and India. The player will use both complex strategies on the campaign map and fierce commands on the battlefield - both on land and sea. The game will feature gameplay correlating with that of the previous games in the Total War series, but with major additions to the campaign map and battlefield.

Over 50 factions, ten of them playable.

* United Provinces
* Britain
* Spain
* America
* Russia
* Prussia
* Poland-Lithuania
* Venice
* Ottoman Empire
* Austria
* Sweden
* Mughal Empire
* France

Empire features all new 3D naval battles, and large land battles with muskets, and artillery. Building are garrisonable, and there is a plethora of new formations and strategies to be mastered. The naval battles feature full - destructible sails, realistic cannon fire and boarding action, all taking place at an amazingly graphical sea setting.

Not only is naval warfare a change in the battle system - the battles on land have been given a major makeover too:

* The firing of cannons and muskets is made more realistic.
* Music makes its way into the battlefield in the form of bagpipes, drums, flutes and trumpets.
* Weapons may jam and misfire, and cannon can explode.
* Generals shout orders at their troops as the regiment goes into combat or fires at enemies.
* The battlefield becomes strewn with dead, dying and dismembered bodies, which uses ragdoll physics to add to the chaos.

A few images have been released,

I'm definitely going to get this being the huge Total War fan that I am.

The requirements of the game have not been confirmed as of yet since it's still too early but I would believe that it'll be the same as Medieval 2 Total War, if not, a bit more....

You'll have time, the game is expected sometime around 2008. My guess is that it'll be released in Fall of 2008 at the latest.

I have medieval 2, and I really like it. But I have to turn the detail all the way down to play it. It still has some lag, too. If I get Empire, I will have to delete like half the files on my cpu Crying or Very sad

I think the only upgrade I would need with my rig is another gig of ram. The requirement of having up to 2G of Ram for games is becoming more excessive, I''m really not that surprised.

I entertain the idea of buying Medieval 2.
But 43,95€ - isn't that a bit expensiv for such an "old" (nearly 2 years old(!)) game? oO

You've just unsettled me a bit but Wikipedia proves me right:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_Republic Razz

Quote:
* United Provinces
* Britain
* Spain
* America
* Russia
* Prussia
* Poland-Lithuania
* Venice
* Ottoman Empire
* Austria
* Sweden
* Mughal Empire
* France

Moreover the Dutch as an important colonial power are absent in this list if they're not represented by the United Provinces Mr. Green
